The Sun and Opportunity to Pray

Both of us slept well last night. My wife held food and drink down last night; she woke hungry this morning. We enjoyed a little breakfast and talk this morning. Just before I delivered breakfast, I wandered out the back door. The sky in the East was sparkling blue-white with a few cirrus. The sun was too bright to even look in its vicinity. I pondered the scene and the calls with friends last night. A sketch and story came to mind. Both follow:

Tonight a few friends will be coming over to do something that may be strange to unbelievers but is not strange to us. We will obey the commands in James 5:14-15 by annointing Linda with oil as we pray for God to heal her of the cancer that has reared its ugly head for the fifth time. “Why bother?”, you might ask.

Because the same God, who can heal us, is He Who created darkness and light and  the sun. The sun should not exist. The nebular hypothesis that is spoken has fact as the origin of the solar system is full of holes and conjecture. In essence, the coming together of energy and mass in an organized fashion to create the stars, the sun, or any other stellar body does not involve a natural process or obey the laws that we see sustain things around us. Genesis and other scriptures make it clear: God created….and created…and created…until the end of the 6th day. That same God Who hung the earth in space, enables us to see the stars, and established the laws of the heavens also came to us, within His own creation, in a tangible clear way…healing the sick, raising the dead, and speaking of the Kingdom of God.

So, we have a few friends coming to our home tonight to agree together to ask Him to heal Linda. We will do this at 7:30 pm Eastern Standard Time on Feb 28, 2012. We will do this as those scriptures in James tell us. Many others have already been praying. If you are one of those, thank you.

One might say we are crazy. So be it. Linda should have been dead a long time ago, but God has done a series of very unusual things as He has sustained her through 20 years of a nasty disease. While we cannot order God to do anything, we have faith in the One who made the sun, the universe, and our souls. So we will ask Him to intervene again.

What have we to gain? …some time to go the Philippines and help a few teachers and staff, to continue several projects that are for the benefit of others, and to live a little longer together until He takes us home. In that time, we will continue to praise him through good times and the tough times. And, perhaps a few more will get to hear us speak of the wonder and kingdom of our God.

What have we to lose? Nothing. If I die today, I die in peace. The same is true for Linda. But if we die, we do not die, for we will be with Him. If you are an unbeliever, this will seem ludicrous. It will seem that we are speaking in a fog–not in reference to reality. I beg to differ. We know the One to whom we belong. It is a hope you cannot see, but firmer than the ground beneath your feet. I do not speak lightly. We have walked with Him through 20 years of this disease that He has bridled and kept from killing her. Sometimes He has used some good doctors. Sometimes He has just plain done it apart from anything anyone could do.
