Reaching Skyward

No sketch this time….just a story. Someone commented to us one time that looking at the night skies must be natural thing for our Ugandan friends because the sky is so dark. I answered this way: “Actually, it is not. They, like we, have to be taught to observe the heavens. Just because the heavens standout is not enough.” Friends that come to my house in Virginia are the same way. Most are unfamiliar with the sky, but once they know we are, we occasionally look skyward as we walk them to their car after a visit in the evenings. On most nights there is some dominant constellation or planet or object that can be seen with the eyes. After a few times, they start to catch on, and start noticing it for themselves.

As mighty and majestic as God is, in His wisdom He hides much of Himself but wants believers to share about Him…pointing to Him by what He has done or telling friends how thankful we are for something or even sharing how we are wrestling with something but asking Him to help us. In a sense, He encourages us to reach heavenward….much like we teach friends to look skyward…and tell of His wonders.

The other night friends came. As they left, they were struck with a bright star, which was Venus. So we pointed out Venus and Jupiter…the moon and Mars…but also spoke of their created predictable positions and their obvious beauty in sky. In cases like this, reaching skyward is the same as reaching heavenward, because we declare His wonders.

While my wife is going through serious treatment for cancer, is it any different? She reaches heavenward in the process, as tells people about how she has tough times but is safe in His hands.

So, reach heavenward in your circumstances, because He is due our praise and thanksgiving and testimony.
