Little Feet at the Door

ifl-little-visitorsHow flexible are you? Can you handle children as well as the elderly? People that are clean as well as those that are dirty? What if they smell good? What if they smell bad? What if a visit is inconvenient?

There was quite a bit of presumption on the part of the disciples and those around Jesus. Sometimes they rebuked children for getting close. Other times leaders got insulted because dinner guests were sinners. He just did not seem to mind what age, health, background, or status someone had. If they wanted to see Jesus, he found the time to respond.

So a few minutes ago there were pitter-patter of little feet at the door of our little cottage in the Philippines. Two children piled in, stayed a few minutes, then out they went. A few minutes later they were back. Linda was working on training talks and I was working on some presentations. Of course, one had to go to the bathroom. A few minutes later they were hungry. Then one was thirsty. We had to correct a couple little situations but that was pretty easy. After all, think of what God still has to do with us when we make bigger goofs.

When the life of Jesus is inside a person, we get adjusted…then adjusted some more. If things go right and we continue to yield, it does not really matter if people come around or what kind of people come. We have His peace. We also love people because He loves us. How can you not love people when Jesus loved us when we were really unclean and unsaved messes?

So when you have the pitter-patter of little feet, or big feet, or dirty feet, or smelly feet at your door, think about it real hard before you get an attitude of indifference or that don’t-bother-me attitude. His love might have an appointment with someone that you will need to invite into your private space.
