His Flower in the Sky

Jesus Christ comments about the beauty of the lilies of the field, which are arrayed with shape and color that surpasses the beauty of any clothing we might find (Matthew 6:28). His comments are in the context of an exhortation: do not worry about the life we have here. Rather, seek first the kingdom of God.

The scripture came to mind after a sketch of the Iris Nebula that is shown above. It is normally too faint for me to see with my equipment, but a friend with a 14 inch scope and a color astro video camera found the object and called attention to it. It was named because of folds of stellar clouds that look like flower petals. Not only is it fittingly named, it is truly spectacular to see. Jim was kind enough to hold the object in his scope for over a half hour so I could sketch it. My sketch does not do it justice, but I defer to God’s statement to the prophet that is shown, and cannot help but echo the same sentiment.
