Looking Straight Up. Have you ever gone camping or taken a walk at night and looked straight up through the trees? You can see the stars peaking through the branches. The sky seems lighter than the trees because star light really does provide a little light (along with a little light pollution). On this particular night in Western Maryland on Catoctin Mountain, I could see the Northern Cross (Cygnus constellation) and two major stars (Altair and Vega) through the trees.
What Most Children See or Imagine? When we have children observing, a good percentage of them have this question: “Are there aliens out there?” Are there? How do you answer the question?
The Biblical AND Scientific Answer. There are no aliens. God made us in His image (see Genesis 1) and made earth the center stage of creation upon which he placed us. The order of creation and the priority given to mankind is quite obvious from the Scripture. Of course, the popular media view is that aliens are everywhere in various forms, which is consistent with the evolutionary world view. After all, life can start anywhere if it all happens by itself. Does it? Does energy self-organize with no outside influence? No. Rather, energy naturally dissipates. It cannot self gather without a plan, a design, and a mechanism to make it happen. Does life come from non-life? No. Experiments have shown this repeatedly. Within the realm of life, genetic coding drives the train. Who wrote it? Did it self-write and create itself? No. It cannot. Science clearly shows genetic deterioration or slow accumulation of information. It does not get more complex and advance by itself.
Why the Persistent Alien Belief? If God is deleted from the equation, there is a logical demand to create the universe and life within it. Then, life must be able to start from anywhere. And, life must come from non-life because that is the only possibility. If it seems like too big a jump, add lots and lots of time; make the steps much smaller; add lots of media and story-telling over the last few decades; teach children for decades that evolution is the only plausible answer. The result is simple: aliens are considered a “natural” result. We have not seen them; we don’t get signals from them; we have no evidence of them. But, they are not hard to imagine. And if people say all this is true year after year, does this not make it true?
The God Answer. The Bible answer from God is much more sure. It is historical evidence, and the Author said He’s is the One who made sure it was communicated clearly. He did not mean to make the Bible a scientific text, but He did provide plenty of ground truth so that avenues of discovery of the details could be left to us.
