It did not take long for watchers of the heavens to realize that God created variety in the celestial sphere. Early observers found that some stars “wandered” with respect to the remainder of the skies around them. In God’s short statement about the creation of the stars, some of those created spheres were the solar system planets. It still took His creative command to make them (they did not happen on their own), but they are distinctly different from the hot balls of energy like the sun. We think we know so much when we master a video game or become a specialist, but think of those early days before optics, when people made careful eye-based observations to find the planets for the first time.
So when you find a planet, like I did about two years ago, take some time to look at it. God means for us to observe and study. The details of the solar system are incredibly rich from the generation of data from the last 3 decades. And, they show this solar system to be unique within itself. His handiwork does not fit popular predictions about size, content, mass, and rotational speeds for the planets. They do not fit a scheme made by a conjecture of origins. They do, however, fit the grand abilities of our Eternal God, showing just a hint of His abilities. And, it makes observations so much fun!! Each planet and moon has distinctive features.
I must, however, exclude earth, since this planet, according to Him, was specifically made to be inhabited, so it stands out in a totally different way. But from its safety, we can gaze upwards to see some of those very interesting planets…like Jupiter, that is pictured in the sketch.
