I have read and studied scenes from the the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) for years. Scenes in a book are like scenes in these books in this sense: you have to make the effort to remember what is there, what happens, and how you would see the scene if you were actually there in order for the scene to come alive.
It may seem unrelated, but I was studying a beautiful nebula in the sky just a few years ago. Without the right equipment, it is not very impressive–just a little spot of flimsy and pale white with a few dark lines. But with the right equipment, it comes alive with royal blues, flaming reds, and transitional colors that would blow your socks off. As I observed it with different equipment, I reminded me of a story in Luke about a little girl–just like one of those beautiful little girls you might know today. Perhaps you have a daughter or know a little girl like this. What if that child got sick and died unexpectedly? For those who have experienced this, it is very hard to take. It is precisely this situation that takes place in the Luke story and it is the story I remembered as I captured this nebula with a sketch. Even years later, I don’t think of the nebula without thinking of the little girl in the story and what God did.
