In the beginning, as God records it in Genesis, He says something astounding about us: we are made in His image. If you do not believe it, check it in Genesis 1:27. From the beginning, we get attention that nothing else in creation gets. We are different. We can contemplate who we think we are or are not. We are able to observe and assess things and people. Our cognitive makeup is unique. Throughout the Bible we can find a history of God’s intervention in our affairs but also His careful protection of our responsibility: we are able to choose Him or tell Him to take a hike. Nevertheless, He persists in calling us to assess who we are and where we are headed–either toward Him or not. We can make an assessment about the matter by comparison of two things: our lives against the life of Jesus Christ.
On a recent evening in June 2013 I had an opportunity to observe two galaxies. Seeing them on the same night enabled me to see more than I saw them independently. Seeing them as paired observations enabled me to compare and contrast them with each other. The same technique pertains to assessing our lives–whether they follow God or not. We can do that fairly easily by comparing what we see in them to Jesus Christ as He is portrayed in 4 simple short letters that are titled, “Matthew”, “Mark”, “Luke”, and “John”.
So follow the link to see the observations of the galaxies and how their paired beauty can lead to some paired wisdom (our view of things compared to God’s view). Then we can actually assess our path relative to God to find out one thing: do we know Him or not? The story does not make the determination, but it does provide the method to get there.
