Julius Caesar is quite a striking crater on the moon. I had never sketched it before, so it was a delight to discover its features for myself on this October evening. Like many observations of the moon, there were occasional breaks where I would lean back and watch the evening sky with my eyes, which was dominated by the moonlight.
Like many craters, it was named for someone famous or significant. Julius Caesar is probably the most famous head of the historical Roman empire. How odd that the Lamb stood before an underling of the reigning head of the emperor of Rome but said not a word to defend Himself, having been falsely accused and delivered to Pilate out of envy. The very Maker of the Moon, the Designer of countless galaxies, the Creator of time and space stood silent on that dreadful day, because He had in mind the salvation of those who would yet call on His name.
Standing on the very surface of the privileged planet that had already been destroyed once by flood due to evil, Jesus Christ refrained from instant judgement of the situation in view of even someone as small as me and others, who centuries later would call on Him in distress…and be saved.
It was a very good evening to give thanks.
