Rescue for the Burdened

It was another rare night to step into the cold air of night under a pristine sky. No cloud, no haze, and no moon disturbed the dark night. So, the sky came alive like I rarely see it. Looking from the northeast to almost west, my Lovely and I could see the Milky Way draped over the line of probably the most famous series of stars, objects, and constellations for late Winter in the Northern lattitudes. Sirius in Canis Major to Orion to Taurus to Perseus took up my field of view as I faced to the south. As I turned a little to the right, Cassiopeia was close to setting over the mountains to the NW. I did a simple sketch because I simply could not pass the beauty without at least making a simple rendering of the immensity of the scene.

The power of the Creator is incredible when the heavens are considered. There are numerous verses in the Bible that express the sentiment. But the verses in Psalm 147:2-4 show something more. The heart of the Father links his ability to name each of the innumerable stars to His heart’s desire to gather outcasts and heal the brokenhearted. This is no idle or whimsical statement.  There are more believers today who are persecuted, rejected, suffering, broken, hungry, and imprisoned than ever recorded in history. For many of these, there would appear to be no hope for the future or release from dire circumstances. Many have died. But, the Father knows them, remembers them, and gathers them to Himself. Bad things happen in this fallen world, but it does not deter the power of our Redeemer, Jesus Christ, to keep those who have called upon Him. So, this evening, I give thanks.

Psalm 147:2-4  The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.

Hebrews 13:3  Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

Luke 4:18  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised…
