Unfolding Victory

I gaze out the eastern windows to watch the redness of the sky slowly turn brighter. Squirrels come alive in the trees; birds go through their early morning feeding routine. As the sun gets higher, the forest floor begins to get brighter. By midmorning, long shadows disappear and the sun dominates.

Full moonrise on the ocean shows a similar change. As the sun sets, darkness approaches slowly. The winds calm, bird flight becomes sporadic, and the brightest stars slowly appear. Then the full moon, hidden at first by sea fog, appears like a dim red-orange bulb a little above the horizon. It takes a couple hours for the night sky to fully appear. By that time the moon is high; its brightness makes the stars seem faint.

Sunrises or full moonrises are not mysteries. They mark the process toward day and night, The changes take time until either the sun commands the day or the moon commands the night sky.

In like manner, God’s victory is absolutely assured, but it is not yet fully seen. Christ’s death and resurrection laid the path of victory for each person who calls on the name of Jesus Christ. As the walk of faith unfolds, we see glimpses of the gathering victory in life circumstances, but the final unfolding of victory is not yet apparent.

So, God’s people walk forward in faith along with believers through the ages, awaiting the last ones to be called before the Redeemer returns to execute the final victory. This is a biblical view and why we are exhorted to remain steadfast, patient, and watchful in faith – even when circumstances are challenging. There is something bigger and much longer coming. In the meantime, we testify of His goodness and purposes.

Do you know the One of whom I am speaking? He is the Creator, the Redeemer, and the Judge. You are made in His image, and He stands at the door and knocks. Will you open it and let Him in? He yearns, as He has from the beginning, to have a people with whom He can have a relationship. He has made full provision for forgiveness of sin and a walk with Him for those who respond. When the last ones finally come, He will unfold the final victory, and we will be with Him forever.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”      Revelation 3:20 (ESV)

“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in Him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”    John 6:40 (ESV)
