Delight Series #4: The Delight of Marriage.
It is a good thing to be married. The birth of the covenant between a man and a woman is at the beginning of the Bible. Genesis 2 is quite explicit that the relationship is not only ordained by God, but it was meant to involve the Creator.
My testimony of marriage affirms how good it is and how the involvement with the Creator of the covenant is at the core of its delight. Granted, relationships get stressed and sometimes break, but it does not take away from the truth of its value and resilience for followers of Christ who stay engaged with Him and each other as husband and wife.
The marriage is so powerful that even in cases where one is a Christian and one is not, the relationship can bless the home. It is so powerful that Jesus speaks of it, as do several of the writers of the books of the Bible. It is so powerful that, when God is put first as a couple walks forward, the Bible says it is a picture of Christ and the church. It is the only picture given of Christ and the church.
So, where does that leave us in an imperfect world with problems and relationship issues? It is best to do it His way, with His priorities, and with His help in time of need. The working and deepening of marriage with God involved is a delight, and worth pursuing.
Genesis 2:23-24 “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Malachi 2:15 Did He not make then one, with a portion of the Spirit in their union?
