Looking for God

What person wants a disinterested friend?
What sort of employee is one who is disinterested in the company that employs him?
What sort of life guard is one who is disinterested in the safety of others?
What sort of body guard is one who is disinterested in the safety of one he guards?

How does God see your interest in Him, or are you disinterested? How would you judge your interest in God, whether it be real or just talk?

We do not see the hearts of people, unless the Holy Spirit makes motivations clear or puts them in the light. But He sees our hearts. He knows which way we lean…toward Him or away. The amazing thing about Eternal God is that He can use any circumstance to prove our interest. He does it all the time as He presents circumstances around us that we either reach to Him in them or amble along our own way. Sometimes He is very direct; sometimes He is subtle. But in all cases, He tests our looking for Him in a variety of ways. He knows whether we pass Him off, ignore Him, pretend interest, or have passionate interest through our responses in situations.

It reminds me of the waning moon in the early morning. Most people never see it because it is at the very time in the morning when people are usually busy with other things….getting ready for school or work, rushing, dressing, primping ourselves, eating, and running out the door. But the careful observer who is interested in the skies will look up and find that crescent in the morning light. The sketch below was done during one of those times. It did not take long to do, but I had to put my heart to it…to express interest and decisions so I would be at the right place and time to catch the waning crescent.

Are you willing to look for God that way? Are you willing to lay everything aside to find Him? Does your heart cry to know the One who made all things? If so, He will meet you in those circumstances where you can prove your interest by what you do, how you lean (toward Him or away). Or, you can continue on your own merry way.

What will you choose? Acts 17:27 says this, “His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward Him–though He is not far from anyone of us.”  The waning crescent will be in the morning sky during the next few mornings as it gets a little close to the sun each day. You can catch it just like I did (see the sketch below), but it will take some effort and decisions and actions. Why not seek God the same way. He responds to those who call on Him. He rarely responds to the disinterested.
