It’s a Buttercup Morning

“You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high: I cannot attain it.”  Psalm 139:5-6 (ESV)

And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”  John 14:21b

The message I repeated most in the Philippines concerned the reality of God’s personal relationship with those who call upon Him. Jesus was not exaggerating and He was being entirely accurate when he said ‘my sheep hear my voice.’ He meant it. At great cost He came, lived, was crucified, buried, and raised,  but He also explained that He had to go, because if He did not, the Holy Spirit would not come. And that great Counselor continues to speak, guide, and direct. David by the Spirit of God knew that God had his address. And he knew he could not attain this knowledge by his own effort. God had to do it. Christ made clear that His intention was to manifest Himself to us. Those that call upon Him are meant to be recipients of His love. Nothing has changed. Those intentions are solid, and He continues to do it.

So, this morning was one of those where I could put the morning sun at my back and look over the grass that was full of buttercups…and consider, think about, appreciate, and remind myself of God’s personal interest in each one that calls upon Him. How do I do that with surety? Because He has done it to me over and over again. Circumstances recently in the Philippines as well as home were reminders again of his actions to cause us to be recipients of His love and direction. I also saw Him do it with children, harassed people, the sick, the little people, and big people as well.

So, today is a simple opportunity to simply praise Him for all of this, and encourage those that may not know this sort of relationship to take another look at the plain words of the Bible. It does not lie. For those who call on Him, He can literally birth you again, and you can have a walk that knows this One who made the universe, yet takes the time to receive little ones and bless them.
