It is a privilege to observe the moon. A planetary body so close to earth and with an abundance of interesting features provides wonderful opportunities for study. God mentions the moon many times in the Bible. His ordered precision in its size, mass, position and motion are fascinating with respect to light at night, marking time, ocean tides, and eclipses. This sketch was done on one of those clear cold nights when I was appreciating some of these lunar attributes. I picked an area near the terminator, where light and shadow played over the surface of the Herschel crater, which became the center of the study and sketch. During this study I used an 8 inch Schmidt Cassegrain telescope with an astro-video camera set with an electronic shutter speed. The video image was relayed to a high resolution monitor at the sketch station.
